Help Page – Mobile Current Conditions at our Major Terminals

Our Current Conditions pages contain information regarding traffic at BC Ferries’ major terminals.  To update the information displayed on a mobile device refresh (reload) the page you are viewing.

Browsing Experience

These Current Conditions pages have been designed to work with a wide range of mobile devices.  For best results, enable the following configuration options on your device’s browser:

Custom Style Sheets

HTML Table support

Javascript

For BlackBerry users these options can be accessed by selecting the “blackberry” button while using the browser.  This will open a menu that allows you to select browser options and enable the above options.  Once your selections are saved you should reload the page.

For iPhone / iPod Touch users these options can be accessed under the Settings menu and Safari submenu.  Once your selections have been made return to the Safari browser and Mobile Current Conditions site, at which point the page will reload.

Site Content

For mobile device browsing each major terminal has its own Current Conditions page and table that contains information on the specific routes served from that terminal. For example, inside the Tsawwassen page the table includes information for the Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, Southern Gulf Islands and Duke Point routes.  In the Swartz Bay table you’ll see information for Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay to Gulf Island destinations. And so on for each of the terminals listed on the index page.

Under the Terminal Name, the date and time of the last update will appear. If it looks old, select the "Refresh" option on your browser.

Each table lists a "Route", for which Current Conditions information is available.

Times shown, provides the next scheduled departure times for the route indicated. Under this, a number shows how full this sailing is as of the most recently posted update. For example, if you see "80% Full", you know that 20% of the vessel's capacity is still available (might be time to make a reservation).

Selecting the percentage full link will present you with a page showing the deck space allocations.  This information is useful if you are travelling in an oversize or commercial vehicle as the sailing availability can also be determined by the size or type of vehicle in which you are travelling.  This information is also summarized in the Car and Oversize Waits section of the table.

Under Car Waits, a number shows how long drivers of non-reserved vehicles up to 7 feet high can expect to wait. For example, if you see a "0" under Car Waits, it means cars arriving at the terminal at the time of the update will board the next scheduled sailing. If you see a "1", cars arriving at the terminal will not board the next sailing, but will be loaded onto the one after that. If you see "POSS", it won’t be long before a 1 sailing wait is posted.

Under Oversize Waits, a number shows how long drivers of non-reserved vehicles over 7 feet high can expect to wait. Again, this applies to vehicles arriving at the terminal at the time of the posted update.

NOTE: Conditions at our major terminals can change rapidly, in particular on weekends and over the summer months.

Under Later Sailings, you'll see departure times for up to five upcoming sailings scheduled for today's date.

Webcams - click on the Major Terminal Webcamslink to view images from cameras monitoring terminal traffic.

Vessel Tracking – selecting the Vessel Positions Maps icon will take you to a page displaying vessel positions for the route selected.  It includes a map and details about vessels currently in service.

‘Arrow’ icons represent vessel positions and direction of travel.  ‘Star’ icons are used when vessels are in port.  Beneath the map the name, status, destination port and time of last update are presented for each vessel.

If the images and information do not appear to be current, try reloading the page (it will not refresh automatically).

Additional Notes

Early in the morning () you may see "?" values appearing for a route. This means the terminal has not yet reported in. Please be patient; this should change shortly.
